Traditional & City
Centre
The changing face of the landscape of urban Britain means increasing
demands are put on our traditional and city centre demolition service.
We have been the principal contractors on a diverse range of projects – from
hospitals and colleges to shops, office blocks and low rise residential
demolition on densely populated local authority housing estates with
a combination of terraced properties, two storey flats/houses and medium
rise flats and maisonettes.
Whatever the task we have the flexibility to respond to the challenge.
Often we work in close proximity to homes, schools and businesses and
in such cases safety and site security are primary concerns. These
locations often rear significant challenges posed by restricted access,
close proximity of surrounding buildings, highways etc, requiring a
considerate and sensitive approach to demolition.
We keep abreast of current legislation and ensure we comply with the
very latest government policies, Health and Safety regulations and
contractual laws.
We understand that the successful completion of projects calls for
a solid working knowledge of structural engineering, careful planning & communication
and the co-ordination of schedules. |

Multi-Storey
Deconstruction & Demolition
Walter Forshaw has been responsible for the deconstruction & demolition of
more than 100 tower blocks of nine storeys and over working hand in hand with
a number of local authorities, private developers and housing associations.
Each contract requires careful preparation, expertise and the appropriate techniques.
Working closely with our engineers, we carry out a structural and environmental
assessment of the building and its surroundings to determine the requisite method
to take the tower blocks down. Whether floor by floor using mini-diggers and
props to support the floors from the imposed loads of equipment and debris, long-reach
demolition using specialist hydraulic excavators and attachments or a combination
of both.
It can be a painstaking process; very often carried out in close proximity to
other homes and businesses. Clearly it is imperative that the deconstruction
is completed without disruption to normal life.
Each tower block deconstruction will pose its own particular headaches – either
because of the poor build quality of the structure or limited access or proximity
to others but we have a team that is capable of rising to any challenge. |

Explosive
Demolition
During the evaluation of the correct method for the demolition of structures,
one of the options Walter Forshaw Limited is able to offer client’s is
demolition through use of explosives.
This service starts with a feasibility study of the project and whether the structure
is suitable for explosive demolition from a combination of cost and safety. Risk
assessments are carried out to determine whether explosives are the preferred
method.
Once the preferred option has been determined, we then work hand in hand with
local authorities and residents. We then make all the necessary preparations
for the blast. We carry out careful design work, produce the calculations, ensure
the site is safe, control the ‘blow down’ and finally clear the site. |

Transport
Networks
At Forshaw’s we understand that the smooth running of the national transport
network is vital to us all. That’s why it is important any disturbance
to our roads and railways needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.
Whenever we are called in to work on a major transport project careful planning
of the operation is paramount. We try to ensure work is carried out as quickly
as possible.
But our major concern is safety - safety for road users, for passengers and for
our own staff. Getting this combination right limits the danger and disruption. |
